I'd be thrilled to find out how many people like the new hiramvillage.org website, since it's supposed to be an improvement.

Also, i wish i knew how much the village is paying for that service, considering the contractor is using a free content management system (not unlike how this message board works). At least the old site had some effort put into it!

Dear Hiram neighbors and surrounding community members,

I've noticed in my time at Hiram College that while there are great things happening here, sometimes people outside of Hiram College don't hear about them until it is too late. Often the people who live around here and are not affiliated with the College do not know about a lot of the things happening at the College.

For instance, did you know...

-- every sporting event at Hiram is free (and they even had a contest to give away a car at a basketball game this year)?
-- there are a variety of music, theater and entertainment events throughout the year, almost all of them free?
-- job postings at Hiram College are posted on the web site?
-- there are nature and art camps being offered at Hiram College to kids this summer?

There are lots and lots of examples like this. To help get the word out, the College has set up an email list designed for people who are not affiliated with Hiram College, so they can get information about what's going on. Sign up for the list at this web site:

https://hiram.wufoo.com/forms/hiram-news-mailing-list/

Hiram promises not to load up your email inbox with lots of messages, nor will they share your information with anyone (you just have to give your name and email address to sign up). This is just a simple way to let the community know about events and news at Hiram College.

Personally I'm glad the College has decided to do something like this -- as someone who is involved in the local community as well as Hiram College, I hope this continues to build good relationships between the two!

This forum is, for the time being, self-policing. That is, if you see an offensive post, please alert me with the "Report" feature, easily visible on any post as a button. That will alert me to the problem and i'll review it. Also, i don't have the time to be particularly active on this forum, so i'll be changing settings and such slowly over the coming weeks or months, rather than opening the site fully-configured. More specific boards could appear, features may come or go, but eventually it'll be finalized and my schedule will open up so i can be more active.
